The weather is warming up, rooftops are open, and the left side of Metro escalators are getting crowded so it must be spring time. And with that, the real estate market is picking up in Arlington providing buyers with enticing properties from Fairlington to Arlingwood and every neighborhood in between. While single-family houses are nice, there’s nothing like a penthouse condo to come home to, even if it’s just in your dreams.
So today we look at the top seven Arlington condos that are on the market (Note: This is not necessarily the top seven most expensive residences, just the coolest of the cool). And. Here. We. Go:
7. The Odyssey | 2001 15th St N #1512 | 2 BR 2.5 BA – $1,280,000
No really, there are two living rooms. At over 1,600 square feet, this corner unit has ample room for all your friends and family and if there is a chef in the group, the Viking range and Sub Zero appliances are sure to impress.
Two outdoor terraces and two deeded parking spots also make this ‘Platinum Suite’ residence one of the most captivating condos on the market.
6. Crystal Gateway | 1300 Crystal Drive #PH1S | 2 BR 2.5 BA – $1,325,000
2400 square feet would be a good-sized house, let alone a condominium. With two stories and a two bedroom and den layout, this Crystal Gateway condo (map) has one of the biggest floor plans among all Arlington condos.
This unit has been completely upgraded and boasts features like wide-plank hardwood floors, a double wall oven, a wine cellar, and much more. And the community offers ample amenities as well.
In addition to being John McCain’s neighbor, residents of Crystal Gateway also enjoy 24-hour security, two pools, and direct underground access to the Metro. The condo fee is however, not for the faint of heart coming in at $1,500 per month.
5. The Weslie | 1401 N Oak St #606 | 2 BR 2.5 BA – $1,799,000
One of the lesser-known Arlington condos, The Weslie, is located right near Rosslyn (map) and is an exclusive community featuring multiple-level condos. Unit #606 is on a higher floor in the community and features immaculate views of the nation’s capital.
Originally a 3 bedroom layout, this 2 bedroom 2.5 bath floor plan offers over 2,000 square feet of living space, an open layout, and a semi-private elevator.
The community is most famous for being featured in the 2007 film Charlie Wilson’s War starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. Mr. Wilson lived in The Weslie during his tenure in Washington D.C., and even though you probably cannot renovate your unit to have a hot tub in the living room (like Mr. Wilson did), units at The Weslie are known for being meticulously renovated from head-to-toe to the likings of the current owner.
4. Memorial Overlook | 1201 N Nash St #604 | 3 BR 2.5 BA – $1,949,900
This is a true penthouse condo in Rosslyn located at Memorial Overlook (map). Even though there are just six stories in the community, this unit offers breathtaking unobstructed views of D.C., the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the Potomac River.
At three bedrooms and 2,700 square feet, this floor plan mimics living in a single-family house. Luxury finishes are found throughout including a wine bar, custom built-ins, superior appliances, and dual vanity sinks.
Closet space is also a tremendous asset at Memorial Overlook. As the great philosopher Jay Wayne Jenkins once said, “House stupid dumb big, my rooms got rooms”. Nah Jeezy, those are closets.
3. Turnberry Tower | 1881 N Nash St #1403 | 2 BR 2.5 BA – $1,550,000
This residence features floor-to-ceiling windows, two outdoor terraces, custom hardwood floors, and private elevator access. Turnberry Tower is arguably the most sought-after community in the Arlington condo market. It’s world class amenities feature valet parking, a staffed health club, an indoor spa, and a doorman.
What is the most luxurious condo in Arlington? Turnberry Tower. You might as well stop reading here. Just kidding. Keep reading.
2. Gaslight Square | 1700 Clarendon Blvd #117 | 2 BR 2.5 BA – $2,395,000
The top two on this list might as well be 1A and 1B, but coming in second place is this ridiculous Gaslight Square condo. Located between Courthouse and Rosslyn (map), Gaslight Square is a new development (2012) built by Abdo that exceeds all expectations.
Except for this owner who went in and completely redesigned this condo with silly features like hidden speakers, TVs in the bathroom mirrors, a TV that disappears behind a painting if you want to change the ambiance, and a huge aquarium to top things off.
With two stories, an outdoor terrace with a grill and wall-mounted TV, and three parking spots, this residence makes for the ultimate bachelor (or bachelorette) pad.
1. The Waterview | 1111 19th St N #2201/2202 | 2 BR 4 BA – $2,450,000
And number one on our list is the combined residence of units #2001 and #2001 at The Waterview condo in Rosslyn (map). Towering over the Potomac River and Washington D.C, there has literally never been another unit like this.
Question: If you live in a penthouse but need more space, what do you do? You buy your neighbor’s condo and tear down a wall of course!
This residence features two master bedrooms, four bathrooms, three garage spaces, and jaw dropping views. Words do not do justice.
There you have it, the seven condos for sale in Arlington VA that you could never afford. But what if you can afford them?…<ahem>
